The ordinary Nigerians face a lot of seemingly, insurmountable problems ranging from economic poverty, sickness, exploitation, extortion, the lack of access to useful information, inadequate participation in the democratic process, the lack of basic infrastructure and denial of basic human rights etc. Helplessness, resignation or the philosophy of self-defeatism are not acceptable and adequate response to these social ills. The grassroot has immense potential which can be harnessed and channelled positively and creatively to change the situation.

The emergence of the PCE-International is an out-come-based thinking and inspiration drawn from the enormous potential power of the grassroot which forms more than 80% of the national population.

It is often said that knowledge is power but one has to remember that knowledge is only potential power. In the same way, the latent power of the grassroot has to be translated into concrete terms if any meaningful change of the deplorable situation is to be attained.

This change is possible only if:

  • the grassroot is united - unity is strength;
  • the grassroot is mobilised;
  • there is effective coordination and networking;
  • their capacity is strengthened to function effectively;
  • they have access to basic information etc.

The PCEI is committed to achieving these veritable and noble objectives in collaboration with other groups and well-meaning individuals who are concerned about the appalling situation and are willing to undertake concrete measures to change it.

In order to be empowered to realise this practical concern, the PCEI was registered as a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation on March 11, 2005, according to Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Part C of the Company and Allied Matters Act Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1990.

We want to contribute creatively in giving hope and brighter future to the grassroot.
